Maui Marathon Traffic Advisory

Aloha,
The 37th Annual Maui Marathon & the 4th Annual Maui Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, September 16th. Please notify your drivers and other appropriate parties of the traffic impact the race will have on Maui's roads. For the safety of participants and others using the roads, please use extreme caution and plan to spend extra time to reach your destinations. The Maui Marathon route, which begins behind the Queen Kaahumanu center in Kahului on Wakea Ave at 5:30am and ends at Whalers Village in Kaanapali at approximately 2:30pm, will be well marked. The Maui Half Marathon begins at 5:30am at the Whalers Village, runs out to Launiopoko Park and then back to Whalers Village. Police and volunteers will be stationed along the route to assist with traffic flow. Northbound Front Street will be open, Southbound, the makai lane, will be used by runners from 6:00am until 1:30pm.

Traffic Impact Advisory

Wakea Avenue from Kaahumanu to Puunene will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 5:00am to 5:54am.

In-bound Puunene Avenue will be rerouted from 5:20am to 6:10am

Kuihelani Highway will be open, however, it will be coned heavily and traffic slowed due to one lane being utilized by runners. Runners will be running against traffic bound for Kahului.

Expect significant impact on Honoapiilani Highway at 380 and 31 (Kihei turnoff) from 4:00am until 7:30am.

The Pali will be impacted from approximately 4:00am to 9:30am. The tunnel will be stop and go traffic and the Pail lookout area will be slow due to diversion of the Wailuku-bound lane.

From the Pali north to Lahaina, traffic will be slower than usual due to the large numbers of runners, but no lanes will be closed.

Runners will turn off the highway onto Front Street at Puamana and Front Street, northbound will be open while the Makai or southbound lane will be closed from 5:30am to 1:30pm.

At Canoes (the former Chart House), runners will re-enter Honoapiilani and enter into Kaanapali Resort to Finish at Whalers Village.

Kaanapali Resort will be significantly impacted from 4:30am to 2:30pm, however traffic will still flow through the resort but at a slower pace.
